How to bargain..

For an enthusiast shopper, knowing how to bargain is very important. While most of the girls are born with this ability, few have to learn. Few tips/steps from Vivek Khare on how to bargain:

1. Never ever try to bargain at a Tommy Hilfiger, Versace or Louis Vuitton Showroom.

2. First of all look really interested in buying one particular product.it should not look like you are just browsing through for options (even if you are)

3. Then make sure that you ask the price, even if there is price tag. I’ll tell you why in the next point..

4. As soon as you hear the price give him/her a shocked or disappointed look (sometimes it may naturally happen, if it’s actually outrageous) If you think it’s slightly over priced jus learn that expression and tell him/her “that’s too much”.

5. At this point the salesman will start to mention why it is a good price for the product..”Oh mam its international quality” or “You will not find a lower price any where” or “The cheaper ones in the market are really low grade..they’ll get bad in no time” or “This product is selling like crazy people just pick it up as they see it..we might run out of stock by tomorrow” blady blady blah !!

6. Ask him to quote the best price if he is ready to, make sure you do not quote first because the sales person would love to get an idea of how much you are ready to pay. So no matter how much he pushes you never be the first one to quote or else you will give the ball in his court (until and unless he is too stubborn to quote anything then you can go for plan B which I will mention in a while)

7. Once he/she has quoted a price, which I guarantee won’t be too less than the original (if that happens you can just go for the kill and take the product for an outrageously low price), do not get carried away thinking this is the best he could have offered. He is just playing with you now.

8. Now you can think of the price you would be satisfied to pay for that product. suppose you thought of 20 bucks as the right price, now quote 16. Yes quote lesser than what you intend to pay but not too less because that will jus put him off.. the trick is to keep him interested..its a cat and mouse game..this bargaining thing.

9. Now its his turn to give you the shocked and disappointed expression and trust me he will, they are trained for these encounters. What ever you quote he is going to give it to you (if he is ready to give the product for that less, then either he is an angel or you have made a mistake and you could have gone still lower but now buy it. It’s just unethical to quote your price and not to take it but what the hell,an experience none the less)

10. Well well from here it’s slightly vague..lot of persuasion from both sides..if he/she finally bends down at say 20 bucks (from previous example) you Won. If not, then tell him I would’ve taken it right away but I am gonna have to leave empty-handed because of the price.i am sorry. (At no point of time in the shop should you show off your latest i-phone and flashy gadgets as it gives the impression that you have ample of money) start walking towards the exit.. Now my experience says 90-95% of the times he will ask you to come back..and give it to you for 20 or may be 22..just to satiate his ego.

11. Going to Plan B mentioned in point 6. A stubborn sales person, not ready to quote the price, not ready to give a lower price is a tougher nut to crack. Then you have to quote an appropriate price and just stick to it..Do not bend down.. now its possible that he Actually can’t give you a lower price because he might be in loss selling it any lesser..In that case the judgement should depend on 2 factors.. Do you desperately need this product..which you might not find any where else.. and do you have the money to buy it at the same price.

Happy Bargaining
